Track and cross country highlights
– A six-time All-Ohio Class AA track and cross country athlete
1981 Class AA 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter state track champ. Rick won the 1,600 in a meet-record 4:14.04 as he defeated Ashtabula’s Jon Lyons (4:17.45). Rick took the 3,200 in 9:22.92 as he outdistanced Firelands’ Doug Benedict (9:29.15)
1980: He was the Class AA 3,200 meters runner-up behind Navarre Fairless’ Joel Marchand, 9:13.4 to 9:14.2.
1979: Rick finished third in Class AA 3,200 meters behind Marchand (9:22.2) and Oregon Cardinal Stritch’s George Rodriguez. Rodriguez and Rick were both clocked at 9:23.8.
– State cross country meet, 4th in 1978 and 17th in 1979
– Member of 1978 Class AA state championship and ’79 Class AA state runner-up teams for Elyria Catholic
– Four-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference, the only Wake Forest cross country athlete to earn this distinction.
