– 7-time All-Ohio Class B state track and field athlete
1953: Class B state discus champion. 4-time state discus qualifier and 2-time sectional/district champion
– Class B All-Ohio for shot put, 2nd in 1952, 3rd in ’50 and ’53, 4th in 1951. 4-time state qualifier and 4-time sectional/district champion
– Class B All-Ohio for hurdles, 3rd in 120-yard hurdles (’52), 4th in 180-yard hurdles (’53). Two-time state qualifier for both hurdle events
– Class B All-Ohio for the 880-yard relay (’51), 5th place
– Led Oberlin boys to 5th place team finish at state in ’53 and 6th place in ’52
– Won a record 11 individual titles and led Oberlin to back-to-back Southwestern Conference track championships, 1951-52

1949-52: Rushed for a then county-record 4,093 yards, scored 56 touchdowns and finished with a total of 401 points in 28 games as a running back, kicker and linebacker for the Oberlin High football team, 1949-52
