Athletic highlights
1982: Led Firelands to the Class AA (now Division II) state championship cross country team, the only state team title in school history. He finished third overall in the team race
Five-time All-Ohio runner, three times for cross country and twice for track
Finished second twice in the individual race at both the 1983 and ’84 state cross country meets
He was second at the 1983 state meet by less than a second to Sandusky St. Mary’s Tom Schnurr, 15:38.1 to 15:39. He was second at the 1984 state meet in 15:48 to record-setting Scott Fry of Sandusky Perkins (14:50.2) – a record that still stands
Third place at the Kinney Midwest Regional and 11th at the Kinney Nationals in San Diego to earn third team high school All-American honors
Two-time state placer for the 3,200 meters in 1984 and 1985, finishing sixth (9:31.71) and third (9:25.30)
Lost only a few Ohio 3,200 races his junior/senior years (state meet). His best 3,200 was 9:18 and his best 1,600 was 4:19
1984-2002: Lorain County Community College 5K course record-holder of 15:38, a mark that remains No. 3 all-time
Second team All-MAC in cross country for Ohio University as a freshman. He ran injured for each cross country season after that and was never able to run track due to illness and injury
