Amherst Steele High School (1971-75)
1975: Class AAA (now Division I) state track two-mile champion (9:16.4)
1973 and ’74: Class AAA state cross country champion. His winning time in 1974 was 9:24.7 and in 1973 he won the state meet in 9:33.
1974: Third place at state track for Class AAA mile run (4:17.0)

Case Western Reserve University (1975-79)
Three-time NCAA Division III cross country All-American (third in 1975, seventh in 1976, 11th in 1977). He also finished 37th in 1978.
1977: Division III track and field All-American in 10,000-meter run
